Exporting a Portfolio to an Excel Spreadsheet

From the Portfolio page you can export the details of a portfolio to an Excel spreadsheet. You do this using the Export button in the Portfolio page.

If you have a popup blocker enabled, you will need to press the <CTRL> button on the keyboard while clicking the Export button. You must hold the <CTRL> button down until the File Download dialog box is displayed.

When you export a portfolio to Excel, at the top of the spreadsheet you see the following fields:

Field

Description

Portfolio

Displays the name of the portfolio.

This field is only filled in if you have saved the portfolio.

Currency

Displays the portfolio’s currency.

Trade Date

Displays the trade date as specified in the Portfolio page at the time the portfolio is exported.

Then each instrument is displayed in its own column or row. The orientation depends on whether the portfolio is displayed in the Portfolio page in a vertical format (the default) or a horizontal format.

For each instrument, the data displayed is divided up into the following sections:

General data

Leg details

Market data

Result

It is important to note that:

Not all fields in the Excel spreadsheet are relevant for all instrument types. As such, for any given instrument a number of fields may be empty.

By default, for each instrument you see its details as displayed in the Portfolio page. In addition, any information in the Trade Information section of the Single Option Data window (see Using the Single Option Data Window), such as the premium, counterparty, or a note, is also displayed.

However, you can also customize which fields will be exported to Excel for your user. You control these fields from the Settings window > Portfolio Excel Display tab. For more information, see Customizing the Export of Fields from the Portfolio Page to Excel.

You see the displayed results for each instrument individually, and for the entire portfolio. For more information on what each result stands for, see What SDX Interest Rates Calculates.

The results in the Excel spreadsheet are the same as those displayed in the pricing page at the time of export. Therefore:

To see up to date results, you should always click the Calculate button in the Portfolio page just before exporting the portfolio to Excel.

The results are only displayed in the Excel spreadsheet page if you have already calculated the portfolio (i.e., by clicking Calculate in the Portfolio page).

The data displayed in the Excel page are not updated automatically. Therefore, if after exporting the portfolio to Excel you make changes to one or more instruments in the Portfolio page you will need to re-calculate it and then re-export it to Excel.

To export a portfolio to Excel:

1. In the Portfolio page access the portfolio you want to export to Excel, and calculate it.
2. Click Export. The File Dialog box is displayed.
3. Click Open to open the file directly in Excel, or Save to save it to disk.
